A Sweet First Day at Fairchild’s International Chocolate Festival

Coral Gables, FL, March 3, 2007- Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden‘s International Chocolate Festival kicked off today and the turn-out has been, well, sweet.  "Where else in Miami can you find chocolate in every form from breads to bon bons, amazing cooking demonstrations, music, even activities for the kids-all in a beautiful tropical setting like Fairchild?" commented a pleased guest. Over 4,000 visitors walked around all day enjoying chocolate inspired cuisine from the House of Chocolate and from the various chocolate vendors in the Garden House, buying chocolate plants, listening to chocolate lectures, sipping chocolate smoothies and enjoying mini massages at the chocolate spa.

 The International Chocolate Festival continues Sunday from 9:30am to 4:30pm. There will be more chocolate products, plant sales, kid‘s events chocolate demonstrations and lectures and so much more. Here is the schedule:

 In the Garden House--Rainforest/cacao display, chocolate vendors selling and sampling chocolates, Theobroma cacao photo display by Ana Luisa Figueredo

 On the Garden House Lawn--House of Chocolate: a sit down café featuring all chocolate treats,  CJ‘s Grill Chicken with mole , steak fajita wraps, Peruvian chicken chocolate stew, Garden Café: hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken skewers, MamaMia Italian Ice including chocolate sorbet. Dutch Magic Chocolate Funnel Cakes, The Chocolate Shop-Chocolate T-shirts & totes, Plant sales: Chocolate scented Sharry Baby orchids and Black Sapote trees

 Music from the Chocolate Lands- In the morning hours, enjoy Brazilian music by Brazilian Explosion and in the afternoon, Jamaican Music by IREIRE

10:00 a.m.-Butterfly Tour starts at the Visitor Center:

11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.-Tropical Fruit Tour starts at the Whitman Tropical Fruit Pavilion

1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.-Garden Collections tour starts at Café

 Tropical Fruit Pavilion-  Authentically dressed Mayan family harvesting and preparing the cacao pods and smoothies for sale

 Chocolate Spa-Equinox Spa giving free mini massages with chocolate scented lotions

 Chocokids- lots of fun and crafts for kids all day including a continual showing of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory at the Chickee hut

 Rainforest- Tour at 11:30 am, volunteers with chocofacts from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

 Veranda Restaurant: Open for Sunday breakfast from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

About the Chocolate Festival

The International Chocolate Festival will take place on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4, 2007from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Road, Coral Gables, 33156. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for children 6-17 and free to children 5 and under and Fairchild members.
