CELEBRATE THE ARRIVAL OF SPRING
AT FAIRCHILD’S SPRING GARDEN FESTIVAL & PLANT SALE

Coral Gables, FL, March 25, 2015 – Spring has arrived, and with it comes an abundance of new blooms and edible plants. Join Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in celebrating the best of the season at the Spring Garden Festival featuring the 36th Annual Spring Plant Sale. The festival is from Saturday, April 11 – Sunday, April 12 from 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Gardening demos by Fairchild horticulturists and local experts will teach you how to improve your edible garden or establish a new one. The garden marketplace is a great place to find locally-grown fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs perfect for preparing the delicious dishes debuted at the chef-led cooking demos sponsored by Whole Foods Market. To sample crisp and refreshing brews, stop by the Beer Tasting Garden presented by New Belgium Brewing. The Spring Garden Tea in the Baobab Courtyard offers a relaxing tea service with sweets and savories from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Enjoy live music while grabbing a bite to eat.

The 36th Annual Spring Plant Sale features a spectacular array of both native and exotic plants grown by Fairchild horticulturists and local plant vendors, who will be on hand to answer any questions. Some of this year’s plants include sweet almond bush, annatto, wild sage, Bailey palms, and pineland croton.

Kids can learn how food gets from garden to table with fun, interactive activities at KidWay. Chefs will present cooking demos of easy and nutritious meals the whole family can make. As part of The Fairchild Challenge’s Green Cuisine Competition, middle and high school students will be judged on their original and healthy vegetarian dishes. Stop by the Garden House to see their creations.

Dale Chihuly’s most comprehensive garden exhibition is on view until May 31. See the large-scale sculptures installed throughout many of the Garden exhibits, including the lush Rainforest, sprawling Palm Collection, picturesque Bailey Palm Glade Vista, and the Wings of the Tropics butterfly exhibit.
