Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden Presents It‘s Sixth Annual International Orchid Festival

 

 Coral Gables, FL, February 29, 2008—Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is excited to announce the International Orchid Festival taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 29—March 2, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Festival will feature nearly 30 orchid growers from around the world who will exhibit the plant‘s magnificent diversity—sure to delight the orchid enthusiast and those new to the spectacular world of orchids. The Orchid Society of Coral Gables will again grace the Garden House with an American Orchid Society (AOS) juried show displaying orchids for visitors to marvel at throughout the weekend. The Orchid Society of Coral Gables will also provide advice and tips on growing orchids at the Get Growing booth on the Garden House lawn. In addition, there will be educational lectures, walking tours and live music including Polynesian music and hula dancers.

Amidst the exotic colors and shapes of orchids, guests will also have the opportunity to see the Botero, Chihuly and Lichtenstein at Fairchild exhibition.  Guests will be amazed as they walk through Fairchild‘s plant collections and within the Windows to the Tropics Conservatory to find the monumental sculptures of world-renowned Columbian master Fernando Botero, the brilliant glass art of Dale Chihuly and the sculptures of Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.

 About the International Orchid Festival

The International Orchid Festival will take place Friday, Saturday and Sunday, February 29-March 2, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission is free to members and children 5 and under; adults, $20 seniors, $15 and children 6-17, $10.  About Botero, Chihuly and Lichtenstein at Fairchild

The Botero, Chihuly and Lichtenstein exhibition, which is expected to host more than 400,000 visitors, combines the monumental sculptures of world-renowned Columbian master Fernando Botero, the brilliant glass art of Dale Chihuly and the sculptures of Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein—all placed throughout the majority of Fairchild‘s uplands as well as The Windows to the Tropics Conservatory.  The exhibition opened during the famous international art show, Art Basel Miami Beach, as part of Fairchild‘s annual art program. 

 The Botero, Chihuly and Lichtenstein exhibition takes place through May 31, 2008, at 10901 Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables.  Day admission is $20 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, $10 for children ages six to 17, and free for children five and under and for Fairchild members. Fairchild Nights takes place every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. through May 29, 2008. Guests can stroll and take in the beauty of Botero‘s and Lichtenstein‘s amazing sculptures, Chihuly‘s glass and the stunning silhouettes of the garden.  Admission to Fairchild Nights is $20 for Fairchild members, $15 for member children 6-17; $30 for non-members, $20 for non-member children 6-17, and free for children 5 and under.
